Louisiana Daily Photo: Italian American Bocce Club

The old Bocce Club out in Metairie is on its last legs as membership has dwindled down to a handful of old timers who dust off their bocce balls on Wednesday nights and reminisce about the era when Bocce meant something.

The Italian American Bocce club was formed in 1977 in Mid-City but moved to Metairie 15 years later in 1992.

The concern’s Facebook has a fetching photo of one of the Popes of yore playing Bocce.

Perhaps the current Pope can swing by Metairie on one of his world tours, play a game or two of bocce and give the club a papal-boost?
