Opened in 1934, Mickey’s was established as a sort of northern outpost for Austin’s drinking set. President Franklin’s New Deal was freshly struck, Prohibition had ended the year before and Americans were out to shake off the yoke of oppressors like Carrie Nation and other scalawags of the temperance movement.
What better way than to settle into a nice cozy bar, drink some ice cold, legal beer and throw some bones with the best players in Austin?
I’m penning a feature on this bar to come later in the year.
