In advance of Mayor Landrieu descending on the statue of Pierre Gustave Toutant Beauregard with a ballpeen hammer and cries of “Take that!” I decided to run up Esplanade and take a few photos of the statue that’s got everybody all heated up.
“Ya fuckin’ mick” was one passing motorists battle-cry. Another gentleman hollered “Don’t take down my statue”
I’m not on the surface Irish nor did I have any implements that would suggest I was there to dismantle the figure so I’m not sure what inspired the kerfuffle.
But emotions are indeed running high.
